Wireless Expense Management, BPO Growth to Continue in 2010

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Strategic Initiatives

As wireless expenses soared to the top of telecom budgets everywhere in 2009, wireless expense management has become a necessity rather than a luxury, with further growth predicted in this segment in the new year.

In a recent interview with TMCnet, Fernando Oliveira, director of business development of Wireless Analytics, said that wireless expense management, and his Danvers, Mass.-based firm in particular, has seen an uptick in 2009, which he attributes to recent economic challenges and companies getting a better grasp of their wireless expenses. In fact, in a 2009 review of the wireless management space, Gartner (News - Alert) reported that 300 companies now service the wireless management space, further evidence of the growing need for wireless expense management in the enterprise.

With increasing efficiencies to continue as a major theme in 2010, Oliveira said business process outsourcing such as wireless expense management will also continue to be embraced. Our full exchange follows:

What major product, services and partnership agreements did your company announce?

FO:  We announced our CLEAN Platform application that significantly improves the wireless program of enterprise organizations.

TMCnet: At the start of 2009, the economy slowed to a deep recession. How did that affect your company’s performance? More specifically, what affect did it have on demand for your goods and services, if any?

FO: We have experienced a positive uptick, since our product and services are associated with the organizations cost containment; 2009 has been about increasing efficiencies throughout the enterprise and wireless expense management plays a key factor in an organizations quest for reducing costs.

TMCnet: Talk to us about the major news item – whether it was a new product, an acquisition or something else – in your market segment this year?

FO: Smartphones and carrier data bandwidth is the major news item this year. They are both intertwined; with the data devices increasingly demanding more and more bandwidth from the carriers.

TMCnet: With signs that the economy is pulling out of the recession, what are you expecting in 2010?

FO:  We are expecting further growth in our market segment; 2009 has been a wakeup call for organizations to watch the P&L. Successful companies have identified and embraced BPO’s (business processing outsourcing) as model that has very high ROI; our CLEAN Platform provides significant return in the wireless expense management space.
